Sleuths – Due May 22nd
1. Biomes are large regions of the earth that have characteristic plant and animal life. Deserts, rainforests, grasslands, and tundras are examples of biomes. Choose one of these and describe 2 plants and 2 animals which live there.
2. How might desert plants and animals be different from those found in the tropical rainforest?
3. Some kinds of plants and animals are in danger of becoming extinct. This is largely due to people taking over the natural living space of these plants and animals. What are some possible solutions to this problem of extinction?
4. Conservation is the wise use of natural resources. Think of 5 ways you can help conserve natural resources.
5. Many of our natural resources, such as coal and oil, will run out someday. What sources of energy do you think might be harnessed or invented in the future? Explain
6. If the President asked you to be the leader of a new anti-pollution campaign, what specific issues would you stress in your effort?
7. Having too many people on the earth could someday be a threat. Fresh water, food supplies, and other natural resources could run out. How might overpopulation of the earth be prevented?
8. If your town or city were running out of energy, would you want the local government to install a nuclear power plant? Support your answer with at least 3 reasons.
9. Scientists use observation to make discoveries. Take a few moments to study your pen or pencil. Describe some of the things you observe about it. What characteristics of the pen or pencil would allow you to pick it out of a group of others similar to it?
