Soundtrack for Hunted by Cast

“Time Is Running Out” by Muse

This song would be a great fit for the climax of the story for a number or reasons.  In the first verse the lyrics say:

“I wanna break the spell that you’ve created

 You’re something beautiful, a contradiction”

These words link directly with the climax because when Zoey sees Kalona, this beautiful god, a contradiction because he’s fallen from heaven, she has to battle the hypnotic effect he has over her.  She has to choose love, to choose good, even though something within her is telling her to go to him and give herself to the darkness.

Another example of the similarity between the story and song is in the chorus.  The chorus repeats:

“Our time is running out,

  Our time is running out,

  You can’t push it underground”

A sense of urgency is present in these lines like that in the climax of Hunted.  Zoey and her circle must rid Kalona and Neferet before they try and take over the world.  Their time is limited because the two dark forces have already taken over the House of Night, it’s fledglings and vampyers and conquered the Sons of Erebus.  If they are unable to overpower the two, the world is in danger.

In addition, the last line mirrors the conquering of Kalona.  Kalona was held captive in the ground prior to his release and now, for reasons unknown, the circle can only drive him away instead of banishing him back into the earth.
