Jennifer’s T-shirt design for Team

Last year was our first time going to the “Feats of Clay” Olympics in Columbus. This season 16 of our students will going to Olympics of Clay at the Columbus College of Art & Design May 16. In the next few weeks we will be practicing for the competition in the art room and taking video and photos of our feats with clay.

Our team must perform various clay skillz the day of the competition. The first is “Cylinder Stacking”. This competition is fast paced and Owen must throw multiple cylinders in 10 minutes and the other 3 members must remove the cylinder and stack them as high as possible (height is everything). The second phase is watching Ashlee Dickson throw as many tea cups as she can in 10 minutes. Last season a team from Columbus had a student throw over 100. Our team must have a member remove it from the wheel, and others to place the handle on it. The third competition is a “No Hands Throwing” on the wheel. We must throw a pot using every other part of our body except our hands. It is very tough but fun to watch and practice. The last competition is to create a hand built vessel with coils that reaches as high as possible. Our team will be working hard until the competition. Stayed tuned for updates, photos, and results of our competition day in May.
