Foundations Homework #7
Due March 19th
Find a line of poetry, passage from a book, or song lyric that you can relate to. Your mission, should you choose to accept it (and it would be wise to do so), is to illustrate your selected line, passage, or lyric in your sketchbook. You may choose to use color or black and white, but I suggest you work hard on this assignment. This is a great opportunity to use your imagination.
· Your drawing must look three-dimensional
· Your drawing must use chiroschiro (dramatic lighting- I should be able to tell where the light is coming from in your drawing)
· Your drawing must take up the entire sketchbook page
· You must have a copy of your passage, line, or lyric either pasted in or written in your sketchbook
· You must be able to explain to me how your picture relates to your passage.
· You must spend 1-2 hours on this assignment and have a parent signature.

Foundations Homework #2
Due Date: February 12th
Gesture drawings
Assignment:
As you see on the back, you will be making quick gesture movements with your pencil, pen, or other medium to create a drawing. Concentrate on the contour (outside lines of the person) and then work inside. We are not showing great depth or detail as in shading but work the shapes and let your mistakes show. When you finish darken up certain areas to show contrast of lines.
Gestures are quick and should demonstrate your ability to draw from observation. When you get comfortable drawing from observation, art becomes more fun and easier.

I want to thank Coach Bart for allowing me to get involved and make the cover of the program for Saturday night. First, I wanted to do something special for group of guys that I have watched over the years on and off the field. I am extremely proud of these young men and congratulate all and the entire staff, GO BRAVES!
I wanted to supper impose the logos of each school under the school names. To do this I used color pencil and began to change the colors gradually through the lettering by working primarily with black and white. The logos also go through the Ohio high school athletic association logo. I gradually added a silver into the background to bring both school logos and OHSAA logos forward. It was extremely rewarding and I had a good time designing it. I hope everyone enjoys the final piece (state playoff design on my blogroll – check it, check it).

Last year was our first time going to the “Feats of Clay” Olympics in Columbus. This season 16 of our students will going to Olympics of Clay at the Columbus College of Art & Design May 16. In the next few weeks we will be practicing for the competition in the art room and taking video and photos of our feats with clay.
Our team must perform various clay skillz the day of the competition. The first is “Cylinder Stacking”. This competition is fast paced and Owen must throw multiple cylinders in 10 minutes and the other 3 members must remove the cylinder and stack them as high as possible (height is everything). The second phase is watching Ashlee Dickson throw as many tea cups as she can in 10 minutes. Last season a team from Columbus had a student throw over 100. Our team must have a member remove it from the wheel, and others to place the handle on it. The third competition is a “No Hands Throwing” on the wheel. We must throw a pot using every other part of our body except our hands. It is very tough but fun to watch and practice. The last competition is to create a hand built vessel with coils that reaches as high as possible. Our team will be working hard until the competition. Stayed tuned for updates, photos, and results of our competition day in May.
